Presenting "Garden of the Sun" exhibition. California's San Joaquin Valley has a distinct historic and cultural landscape, a vestige of the Central Pacific Railroad, agricultural colonies, the lacework of canals and tree-lined boulevards of the 19th century. Beginning in the 1870s a diversity of ethnic and religious groups immigrated to this area seeking a "place in the sun." The image of "The Garden of the Sun" in fact continued to serve as a promotional sogan through the 1930s to advertise the area to prospective farmers. The above lines are from Karana Hattersley-Drayton's opening statement in the prospectus of the conference on Vernacular Architecture held during May 2008. Artists selected for this exhibition are:
- Adam Longatti
- Elaine Lynn
- Pat Hunter
- Robin McCline
- Sally DeLap-John
- Jerrie Peters
- Joel Pickford
Please come by and meet the artists and enjoy the ArtHop Reception from 5-8pm.
